Linear guides are devices used to guide objects to move linearly along a fixed path. It consists of a guide rail and a slider that moves on the guide rail, usually using balls or rollers to reduce friction and achieve smooth and precise movement. The design of linear guides enables them to withstand larger loads and ensure the accuracy and stability of movement.

The linear guide consists of three parts: the moving part "slide", the "track" that supports the movement of the slide, and the "ball". Linear motion is achieved by installing a ball circulation mechanism on these components.
In THK's LM guide, these components are called LM slider and LM rail.

In order for machines to operate accurately and efficiently, linear guides play a role in guiding linear motion easily and smoothly even under load, and have become indispensable components for all linear motion parts such as machine tools and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. In recent years, this component has been gradually used in daily applications such as railway vehicles, buses, automatic doors, and earthquake-isolating devices.​
