Disconnectors are electronic high-voltage switches and are therefore mainly used in high-voltage installations. These circuits must have special devices to prevent erroneous switching on or off. With disconnectors it is not possible to disconnect a high electrical power, they are only able to disconnect the connection optically. This results in two cases, which guarantee the operation of an isolating switch. On the one hand, no current may be present above the switch, i.e. a circuit-breaker connected before or after it must have been opened. The second case would be the non-existent potential difference when the circuit breaker is opened. This is the case if a parallel circuit still exists. This technique is used, for example, when replacing busbars. To disconnect electrical connections under load, it is necessary to use circuit-breakers or switch-disconnectors. Disconnectors are available in different versions. There are, for example, gripper disconnectors, lever disconnectors, rotary disconnectors and others. Their names can usually be traced back to the way they were operated.
