Combined heat and power plants (CHP) are compact energy generation plants for decentralized supply of electricity and heat. They operate according to the principle of combined heat and power generation and use the primary energy supplied to them up to more than 90 %, depending on the module size.

Blockheizkraftwerke - energy efficiently useDer Blockheizkraftwerk (BHKW) is based on an ingenious concept. Instead of burning high-quality energy sources, such as gas, diesel or the like, pointlessly, you can use them to generate electricity. This is done with the help of combustion engines. These combustion engines drive a generator. The generator, in turn, feeds the electrical energy generated into the public grid. The waste heat that escapes from the radiator in internal combustion engines is used here as a second source of energy. The waste heat can be used to supply houses, industrial plants or particularly energy-intensive processes. This principle of so-called cogeneration was used for the first time in large coal-fired power plants. For example, the excess heat can be used to heat the greenhouses of a nursery. This makes it possible to achieve greater efficiency with cogeneration units than with conventional systems. In addition, the high-quality portion of the energy is converted into electricity and is therefore not devalued.BHKW`s are usually used in biomass power plants. The gas generated is burned in an internal combustion engine and generates electricity. This is compensated with a fixed feed-in tariff. The waste heat is distributed to the surrounding consumers via district heating lines. In the private area there is also the possibility to install a CHP. This generates electricity, which is either consumed or fed into the grid. The waste heat is used to heat the house. So you have a heating system that generates and sells energy at the same time.
