Profiled rail guides are linear guides with roller bearings and are also referred to as rail guides, recirculating ball bearing guides or recirculating roller guides. The dimensions of these linear guides are standardized in DIN 645 and the development of this technology began in the 1970s. In addition to the standard dimensions of the DIN guideways, leading manufacturers also offer series adapted for special applications.Profile rail guides consist of one guide rail and one or more guide carriages. Rolling elements for power transmission and smooth movement are installed between the LM rail and the LM block. Balls or rollers are used as rolling elements. Today, designs with 4 rows of balls or 4 rows of rollers have established themselves. In 4-row designs, the rolling elements have a 2-point contact and can be installed in X arrangement or O arrangement. Less common are 2-row systems with a 4-point contact. For space reasons, 2-row systems are usually only found in miniature guideways.Profile rail guides are used in many areas of application and are mainly used in mechanical engineering.
