    Sand casting uses patterns and core boxes that can be used repeatedly. The moulds and cores made of moulding sand (foundry sand), on the other hand, can only be used once.
    A distinction is made between different types of moulding material binder (green sand, chemically bonded sand, etc.).
    In gravity die casting, casting is carried out in a repeatedly usable metallic permanent mould, usually made of grey cast iron or steel. Metal or sand cores are used to form cavities in the casting (the former can be used repeatedly, the latter only once).
