A pellet is a form of compacted or pressed material (usually wood). The word comes from the English "pellet" and means as much as "little ball". If the shapes are relatively large or angular, these briquettes are called. The manufacturing process is called pelletizing.Pellets are used in various areas, for example in biogenic fuels, in the production of concentrated feed, in beer production and in industry. In the furniture industry, very large quantities of superfluous sawdust are discarded annually, but these are then used to produce pellets or briquettes. The purpose of the production is that enormous transport costs can be saved by increasing the density. In addition, dust formation is avoided during storage and can thus prevent dust explosions such as rarely occur in sawmills, for example. Two classic examples are to be mentioned. Zoos and zoos often have food bags containing small elongated sticks. These are feed pellets for goats of other ungulates. Another use is being used in more and more households today. Almost every fireplace is heated with a supply of wood pellets or briquettes. Due to the high bulk density of the moulds, a long burning time is given with little storage space. Pellets and briquettes are therefore already a lucrative alternative to conventional gas heating.
