Pellet (the term comes from the English and means"little ball") is the name given to small bodies made of compacted material in cylindrical or spherical form. Pelleting technology is used to produce pellets. Here the raw material is strongly compacted and possibly a binder is mixed in addition. Wood pellets consist, as the name already says, of pressed and compacted wood. They are usually produced directly near a sawmill from wood waste in a pelleting plant.Heaters for wood pellets are available in various designs. A basic distinction is made between individual stoves and central heating systems for wood pellets. Single stoves are used in a room (for example in the living room) similar to a normal wood stove or briquette stove. There are many differences between central heating systems for wood pellets and conventional oil or gas heating systems. If heating is required, the pellets are requested and transported to the burner. Now a hot air blower is switched on to burn the pellets on a grate. As a result, a wood pellet combustion plant reacts only slowly. To compensate for this shortcoming, however, there are buffer tanks that should be taken into account when planning such a system. As an interim solution there are surface-mounted pellet burners which can be installed as an inexpensive alternative to an existing oil or gas boiler.
