Wood briquettes are dry fuels. They are obtained by briquetting, i.e. crushing raw material and pressing it into a uniform form, from dry chips and other waste from the wood industry. This manufacturing process allows a high compression of the wood, so that wood briquettes can be compared with the burning behaviour of lignite. However, in terms of ash release and sulphur content, this type of briquette has lower values than lignite. In addition, wood briquettes exist in different types and forms. Their differentiation usually lies in the compression process of the respective briquetting plant, as well as in the type of wood. For example, square, round and round briquettes with holes and bark briquettes are offered on the German market. These in turn are sold in various types of wood. For example, briquettes made of pine, oak or a mixture of oak and beech are suitable for many combustion plants due to their low residual moisture (sometimes below 10%), the very high calorific value, the minimal amount of ash, the easily stowed away form and the long embers, depending on the product. They are most frequently used in wood stoves, fireplaces and boilers.
