Roll feeders are often used on automatic presses to feed strip material. These devices are mechanically, hydraulically or electrically adjustable connected to the press. The front part of a roll feed consists of movably mounted guide rollers which adapt to the strip material in order to continue it straight. A sensor located downstream of these guide rollers detects whether strip material is present or whether new material has to be added. It is followed by the upper and lower feed rollers, which take over the actual further transport of the belt material. The upper roller can be adjusted via a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder in order to adapt to the different material thicknesses and to exert pressure on the material to be transported.The automatic press gives the starting impulse for the roller feed via an electrical or electronic control. If the sensor has detected the presence of strip material, the material is fed through the feed rollers and fed to the processing station. Some machining operations, such as punching, require the feed rollers to release the strip material for the duration of the operation. For this purpose, the upper feed roller is briefly raised by the hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder. At the end of the process, the roller is pressed down again and the feed is continued. The pulses are given by the electrical or electronic control.
