Chain Gear
Chain drives are among the traction gear units. Rotational forces are transmitted in a chain drive with either a fixed or an exchangeable transmission ratio. A chain drive, which runs over a chain wheel, is called a form-fit gear. A slat chain drive uses a chain with slats that can be shifted sideways. With a chain drive, both the drive wheel and the output wheel are surrounded by a revolving chain. Some chain drives have a changeable transmission ratio, for example on bicycles or motorcycles. For the most part, positive chain drives are used whose drive chain is usually the roller chain. To minimize wear, the inner plates are pressed onto the bushes. With continuously variable chain drives, the slat chain runs between the 2 taper disks both on the side of the drive and on the side of the output. If the distance from taper disk to taper disk is changed, a change in the transmission ratio can be achieved. Continuously variable chain transmissions are used in automatic transmissions in the automotive industry because they enable drivers to drive in the speed range that is most economical. The Audi car group also uses the multitronic continuously variable chain transmission.
