het bedrijf ABT Sportsline is vandaag de dag de grootste tuner van voertuigen voor het VW en Audi concern en voert ook talrijke autosportactiviteiten uit voor het merk met de vier ringen. In een bedrijf met meer dan 125 jaar geschiedenis telt echter ook gisteren, en daarin zijn wij geworteld. Ik denk dat wortels belangrijk zijn om stevig te staan - maar ze mogen je niet aan de grond binden. Mijn voorouders namen dit motto al ter harte. Een van hen, Johann Abt, richtte in 1896 een "innovatiesmederij" in de ware zin van het woord op: in plaats van zich te beperken tot het maken van hoefijzers en het repareren van paardenkoetsen, vond hij een koets uit die in de strenge sneeuwwinters ook als slee kon worden gebruikt - een echte hybride dus. Sindsdien is ons familiebedrijf zich blijven ontwikkelen. Zoals een bergstroom die een steentje vermaalt en zich beetje bij beetje voortbeweegt in steeds groter water, zo heeft de innovatieve geest van vele generaties ons steeds verder vooruit gebracht. De liefde voor auto's vond al vroeg zijn weg in onze harten en geesten.
Toen de kleinzoon van de oprichter, Johann Abt, in 1950 deelnam aan zijn eerste autorace en daarmee de basis legde voor onze autosportactiviteiten, bestond AUTO-ABT in Kempten al lang. Mijn vader hield ook van snelle auto's in het dagelijks leven. Daarom richtte hij in 1967 ABT Tuning op. In 1978 tunede hij de eerste VW Golf en al in 1980 bracht hij de eerste chiptuning op de markt. Daarna ging het van kwaad tot erger. En in 1991 werd eindelijk de nieuwe representatieve bedrijfszetel geopend in de huidige Johann-Abt-Straße, die in 2014 werd uitgebreid met een indrukwekkend motorsportcentrum en ook een eigen museum herbergt.
Ook mijn zoon Daniel Abt treedt in de voetsporen van mij en een hele reeks drukke voorouders. Maar hij drukt ook al lang zijn eigen stempel en gaat met zijn tijd mee: zowel als Youtuber als bij ABT Sportsline
