The construction industry also referred to as building industry is an important branch of the ecomomy, it provides services connected with the construction of buildings or roads. This includes all planning and execution services. The construction is carried out by individuals, minor or major construction companies of various industries. To the construction industry the planning authorities, the construction industry, building research institutes and development companies are not included. In construction, a distinction is made between the construction industry, building materials industry and associated trades.

The construction industry includes companies that accept mainly the execution of the building shell. This is true both for building construction and for civil engineering and for paving and landscaping.

The building trades include all commercial which assembly the structures. These include the building technicians, locksmiths, carpenters, painters and upholsterers.

Support services include companies that are not directly build to building but who create the conditions so that a building can be built. These include the building haulage contractors, construction cleaners or also construction waste disposal.

In Germany, the construction industry is divided into the construction industry and the building industry. Construction includes craft enterprises which are members of the Chamber of Crafts. Medium and large enterprises that are part construction are members of the Chamber of Commerce. The interests of the construction companies are represented by the Central Association of the German Construction Industry.
