A geothermal system is a system for storing heat in the ground to heat something or generate electrical energy. It is also called a geothermal plant. With the help of geothermal energy, pumps promote energy and thus belong to the group of regenerative energies. Plants with an output of approx. 35 gigawatts are operated worldwide. These generate approx. 82 gigawatt hours. However, this only covers a minimal percentage of the energy demand (less than 1%). geothermal plants occur in different forms. Two essentials are near-surface geothermal energy and deep geothermal energy. Via a pump system, heated groundwater is pumped to or near the surface of the earth in water pipes. This is usually used to heat or cool buildings. Additionally one can use with a so-called heat pump heating, the terrestrial heat around the warm water production to operate. A practical example, from the power generation a geothermal power plant supplies. In this way, heated water is pumped out of the earth's interior. This flows to the earth's surface, into the turbines of a power station, in order to convert the heat by generator, into energy. The electricity then flows into the grid via a transformer and the devalued groundwater is cooled in cooling towers. The water then flows back into the earth's interior, where it absorbs new heat. This closes the cycle of the form of regenerative energy.
