A heat exchanger converts heat energy from one element to another. These can be two liquid, two gaseous media or one liquid and one gaseous medium. Thermal energy is transferred from one material flow to another with the aid of a heat exchanger. Different types of heat exchangers are differentiated, according to the application the suitable heat exchanger is selected. heat exchangers are used in many areas, main areas of application are - ventilation systems in air-conditioned buildings - solar systems - heating technology - heat transfer in waste water systems.With regard to heat transfer, heat exchangers are differentiated according to direct heat transfer, indirect heat transfer and semi-direct heat transfer. In direct heat transfer, a combined heat and mass transfer takes place in separable material systems. A typical application example is a wet cooling tower in a power plant. In indirect heat transfer, material flows are spatially separated by a heat-permeable wall, as is the case with radiators and heat exchangers used in heating technology. The properties of a heat accumulator are used in semi-direct heat transfer; both materials come into contact with the heat accumulator with a time lag. Such heat exchangers are regenerators, which include heat wheels. The finned tube heat exchanger consists of a helically wound tube, giving it the typical fin shape. This tube is often made of copper, partly the heat exchangers are made of copper tube with a galvanized surface. These materials have the advantage that they are corrosion resistant. They offer a maximum heat exchange surface and are ideal for use in small rooms. Such finned tube heat exchangers can be used for the utilisation of waste heat in cooling systems. Drinking water and heating water can be heated, the environment and resources are protected, as heat is recovered from a refrigeration circuit. Such heat exchangers are often used in hot water heat pumps and heat pump storage tanks to heat drinking and heating water. They can be used in buffer storage tanks of solar systems. The media used in these heat exchangers are water from district heating systems, boilers, antifreeze mixtures and heating steam.
