Bending presses are devices through which the sheet metal parts, casings, cladding components and control cabinets are bent. Bending presses are also known as folding presses or press brakes. The structure of bending presses consists of a bending punch and a bending die.

On the bending press sheet metal parts are bent into the right shape. Normally only sheet metal parts are bent which angles can be adjusted at will. The size of the work pieces which can be worked upon depends upon the size of the bending press. Most bending presses are constructed as tools to shape all materials. The sheet metal is placed in this process in the middle between the bending die and bending punch. The punch applies pressure on the sheet metal. The sheet metal bends as it yields to the pressure and takes on the shape of the die.

Bending presses are used in industry and trade sectors. In the construction sector bending presses are used to bend the fortification of reinforced steel grid.

Lots of bending presses are operated manually with a lever, whereby the required force is applied to the sheet metal so that it bends. Many bending presses are equipped with an electronic motor, as a lot of materials are too hard for the manual bending process.
