Cyclic lathe for smaller turned parts used in small series production Cyclic lathes are semi-automatic machine tools. They consist of a frame, a lathe bed, a headstock, a feed, a tool slide, a tailstock and a steady rest. Cycle lathes are used for the production of rotationally symmetrical workpieces, such as screw tips, drive shafts, nozzles or tie bars. A tool firmly clamped on the tool slide (boring bar, cutting head or chisel) is guided to the workpiece rotating about its own axis and cuts its surface. The main advantage of these lathes is that they can be operated both manually and automatically. The degree of automation can be individually determined according to requirements, right up to fully CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operation. While CNC lathes have to be programmed with great effort, these lathes have a large number of work cycles pre-programmed in accordance with DIN standards for the production of turned parts, which can be called up as required (logically based on one another). Cyclic lathes are particularly suitable for the production of small series and very small series up to 10 pieces and for the production of individual pieces with different pitches, diameters and lengths as well as connections. Cycle lathes are therefore generally used by companies specialising in niche markets (e.g. in plasticizing technology).
