Plastic molding is a manufacturing process in which thermoplastic or thermosetting plastics are melted by heating and then poured into prefabricated molds to obtain the desired shape after cooling. In the plastic molding process, the suitable plastic material is first selected according to the product design. The mold is then designed and manufactured. The design of the mold directly influences the precision and surface quality of the product. Factors such as the geometric shape of the product, dimensional tolerances and demolding angles must be taken into account in the design. The molds are usually made of steel with good wear resistance and thermal conductivity to ensure the stability and repeatability of the casting process.
In the practical casting process, the selected plastic pellets or powder are placed in a heating device and melted. The melted plastic material is then poured into the mold cavities, which are preheated to the appropriate temperature. In the mold, the plastic material cools and solidifies, creating the desired product shape. Controlling the cooling time and temperature is critical to product quality and should be optimized based on material properties and product requirements.
After demolding, post-processing steps such as deburring, grinding, printing or assembly may be required to meet the functional and aesthetic requirements of the product. In addition, in view of increasing environmental awareness, it is important to develop biodegradable and recyclable plastic materials and to reduce energy consumption and waste emissions during the production process.
