Impeller pumps are self-priming positive displacement pumps. The diameter of the impeller is larger than the inner diameter of the pump housing. The impeller is a so-called vane wheel made of a rubber-like material. A special advantage of the impeller pumps is that they have a very good sealing effect due to the elastic blades and can therefore suck in air. A vacuum is created at the suction opening and the medium to be pumped is sucked in. These pumps are used, among others, in the beverage industry for conveying foodstuffs (food pumps). This pump technology is also used for cooling boat engines.
