Eddy Current Separators
The eddy current separator has an extremely strong magnetic rotor which rotates within the non-magnetic housing. A conveyor belt transports the respective material evenly into the rotating area of the separator. In the rotating field, vortices occur within the non-ferrous metals in which the particles are repelled by the rotating magnetic field. In the separation performance of an eddy current separator, the respective rotation speed of the magnet rotor does not play the sole decisive role. Rather, the performance depends on the field depth as well as the rotor configuration, the rotor speed and the direction of rotation. The size and shape of the non-ferrous metal particles also influence the reaction in the magnetic field. For example, different models of eddy current separators are available on the market. On the one hand a separator that separates parts over 25 millimetres and on the other hand a model that guarantees optimum separation of the smallest parts. The bandwidths are up to two meters, for example. The eddy current separators are usually of such a compact design that they can even be installed within systems with limited space. The frame is also easy to maintain as the covers are easy to remove. Eddy current separators are required for the optimum separation of non-magnetic metals such as copper and brass, aluminium and zinc. They are used effectively in waste disposal, biofuel production and the recycling of electronics and plastics.
